If you have pre-schoolers then half terms can be a bit difficult. Lots of toddler groups or baby classes take a break during school holidays, and soft play centres or museums are often much busier as the older kids are off. If you are looking for some pre-school events during half term then you should check out Alnwick Playhouse. Their childrens program, Creative Cocoon is brilliant. There are lots of quirky shows, and a regular playgroup which looks so sweet. I wish that I lived closer as I would visit much more often.
We were invited at the end of last year to go to their Winter Wonderland. It was a mix of music, games, and messy play, and both of my two loved it. Themed around The Cat in the Hat there was a great atmosphere, with probably about 25 kids, a couple of performers and masses and masses of props. As well as some of the traditional games they had some effects I hadn't seen before, such as projecting a story onto some material that all of the kids were holding, which when the lights were out had a really magical feel to it. I was really impressed with the effort which had gone into the event and it made for a very special couple of hours. We'd been invited as a guest, but the cost for the Winter Wonderland was only £3.50 per child which I thought was excellent value.
Whilst that event was a one off there are some great options for pre-schoolers coming up in the next few weeks.

Whilst Alnwick is a bit of a drive for us, we'll definitely visit again to go to some of their brilliant events. We'll probably look to combine it with a trip to Alnwick Gardens or Alnwick Castle to make a day of it.
