Welcome to day 2 of my North East advent calendar. Today I have a real treat for parents with children over 5 - fun activities for them. So far, so what... but wait. You are actually allowed to leave them. Freedom can be yours for a couple of hours. You could do some Christmas shopping, go for a coffee, or you know sit in a darkened room rocking in a corner - whatever floats your boat. Newcastle people there are spaces available this Sunday (4th December), then Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st December. In Sunderland there are two dates, Thursday 22nd or Friday 23rd December.
Places are limited at all of these events, so book up quickly if you fancy them.
Discovery Museum- newcastle

The Discovery Museum are putting on Christmas Crafts and Creation sessions, where each child will be helped to create 5 Christmas Crafts to take away. Their website states each member of staff facilitating the sessions are DBS checked and that siblings can attend one session together as adjustments can be made to provide an age appropriate craft for each child.

Wednesday 21st December, 10am - 12pm or 1pm - 3pm, £5 per child
The Laing are using the 'Winter Wonderland' exhibition to inspire children to create their own winter scenes. They request that children wear clothes suitable for messy play and light refreshments are snacks will be provided. Website says all staff hold an enhanced DBS Certificate.
Football Camp at SEABIRDCentre - sunderland
Thursday 22nd December, 10am - 3pm, £5 per child
Friday 23rd December, 10am - 3pm, £5 per child
If you have a football fan, aged 4 - 12, then this event sounds brilliant. It is such a bargain for £5 for the session, and unlike the Newcastle events, where you probably need to stay pretty local to the event, you could always drop the kids off here and then head home to do some Christmas dinner prep, wrapping, or catch up on The Only Way is Essex Christmas special - it is your Christmas too remember! You are requested to pack lunch and plenty of drinks. Every child will receive a certificate and a player of the day trophy will be up for up grabs every day. The site promises plenty of football drills and fun.
